facade of the Black & White building

Art work in this  group are selected my progression of  architectural  subjects  going from the
fully three dimensional  to  a series  of wall hung  less obviously  architectural pieces.   The
complete buildings inevitably assume a primary focus on their facades. The wall hung pieces are
derived from building sidewalls.

My  order of evolution from the complete buildings was:

                                                  Complete buildings
                                                  Roof tops
                                                  Stacked block figures
                                                  Roof  top faces
                                                  Side wall pieces

This evolution was not simply jumping directly one mode to the next but rather  one that involved
a lot  of gradual back and forth.   The final move to the wall hung - side  wall  derived  works came
about  from  seeing  the  buildings  in different  attitudes  in my studio. I wanted the  sidewall to
take  on  the singular display  role.

These  sidewall constructions continue  the process of working their surfaces  with  line, color,
paint,  and collage found on the constructed buildings.     The sidewall surfaces are created using
various methods including sanding, scraping, gouging, spattering, drilling, and what ever else
the piece might need .    Final adjustments  and  revisions can  go  on  for sometime.
